Gentle Heat & Pressure to Improve Eyelid Gland Function
Atlanta Eye Care is Excited to Announce They Now Offer Tixeli Dry Eye Treatment!
A 2-minute treatment for Dry Eye Disease with no expression needed. Best in class results and longer lasting relief with proven safety.
Tixel uses precisely-controlled heat to restore/improve eyelid gland function. Powered by Thermo-Mechanical Action®, this treatment consists of short pulses (6 milliseconds) of high heat applied via gentle pressure from the proprietary, self-disinfecting, Titanium-coated tip.

What is Tixel-i?
The Tixeli dry eye treatment is a quick and non-invasive procedure for adults with Dry Eye Disease (DED) who do not have active inflammation or infection. The entire process takes only 2 to 3 minutes and requires no numbing creams or ultrasound gel.
During the treatment, a block of 24 small, blunt titanium pyramids heated to 400*C briefly (and lightly) touch the surface of the skin. The skin is not pierced, and there are no lasers or radiation. Each lid gets ten quick, evenly spaced “pulses” of heat, which melts the meibum (oils) in the Meibomian Glands beneath. As a bonus, treatments over the part of the lid containing the lash follicles can reduce rosacea and demodex mites that contribute to blepharitis and dry eye. Redness and slight skin irritation may occur for up to 4 days post-treatment. In the first 2 days after treatment, makeup, sunscreen, and sun exposure are to be avoided.
Dry Eye
The prevalence of dry eye is on the rise. It is estimated that 30 million people in the USA suffer from the symptoms which can include:
- Itching
- Stinging
- Redness
- Light sensitivity
- Eye fatigue
- Blurry vision
- Watering/tearing
Not all dry eye is the same. These symptoms can be the result of excessive digital screen time for work or entertainment, often because we forget to blink. Certain eye surgeries (such as LASIK or cataract surgery), can exacerbate dry eye. However, many people have problems with their glands that cause Evaporative Dry Eye.
What Sets Tixel i (pronounced Tixel eye) Apart?
What sets Tixel i apart from other dry eye treatments is that it only takes 2 minutes for both eyes to be treated. It can be administered by optometrists and other allied healthcare professionals. By contrast, other treatments can take up to 1 hour and often include radiation. The effectiveness of Tixel i has been scientifically documented in multiple clinical publications, including a multi-center study in the USA that included a 6-month follow-up extension.
What to Expect During Tixel i Treatment
All you need to do is relax! The clinician will gently cleanse your eyelid areas and an analgesic gel may be applied prior to treatments. The disinfected handset is placed gently on your upper and lower eyelids so short pulses of heat can be applied through a matrix of superficial thermal dots to improve gland function. You’ll feel warmth and gentle pressure on your eyelids for a total of 2 minutes for both eyes. Immediately after treatment, you may experience temporary eye watering or blurry vision.
For maximum relief, most patients require 3 Tixel i treatments spaced 2 weeks apart.
